Copper construction, field-proven performance and phase-over-phase designs.
Turner’s Type 1CD side break switch is well suited for phase-over-phase applications, phase-next-to-phase and triangular configurations on the transmission system. Unlike many so-called transmission-switching products that are merely substation switches modified for use on the transmission system, the Type 1CD is a true transmission switch. It is designed and built for the harsh environmental conditions, galloping conductors and constant pole movement inherent in severe aerial applications.
The 1CD switch configuration is the most versatile. Designed as a “stock switch” suitable for almost any application, The conductor deadends right to the frame. Phase-over-phase, pole-saving triangular and delta mouting configurations are available. Line configurations such as tangent and 90-degree corner are easily handled. If the line is to be deadended to the pole, a “front mount” frame which moves the vertical operating pipe off of the thru-line pole face is available.
Turner Type 1CD switches can be used for station isolating and bypassing, distribution and transmission line sectionalizing or isolating arrestors, metering equipment and other apparatus. Right hand or left hand opening can be specified at time of order. They are easily upgraded for automatic operation and load breaking.
Secure Blade Closing
Turner Type 1CD switches firmly close into position, with the blade tip engaging the jaws with sufficient force to expand the contact jaws, preventing any blade bounce. Both the blade and jaw contacts are wiped clean during the closing action to ensure a low resistance current transfer. A heavy-duty blade-locking device keeps the blade closed despite temporary faults, surge currents, twisting structures or galloping conductors.
The lock is released during the switch opening sequence. This action, exclusive to Turner 1CD switches, breaks up any ice or contamination, and releases the contact friction, allowing the blade to easily be removed from the contacts.
